Art has always been such an everyday part of my life that only with time did I realized everyone did not possess the same ability to create. My Mother and Aunt were decorative art instructors which filled my life with the wonder and joy of art. I began my formal training in high school in antique decorative art then attended Rhode Island Community College. I began private classes under Betty Johnson, a Rhode Island School of Design Instructor, recognized in the decorative art field. Marriage and children interrupted that pursuit. I, however, never gave up art classes. I rummaged the antique shops in my native New England looking for the perfect old tray to gold leaf or other wonderful old items to restore and decorate. In 1988 I along with my husband and children moved to Vero Beach, Florida after selling our Inn on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Inn was the perfect place to showcase my pieces but Florida seemed to call for a different outlet for my creativity. I discovered the Vero Beach Museum of Art and a new direction emerged. Painting with oils on canvas became my new passion and I worked very hard to master my new chosen medium with workshops and classes. I retired my # 0 round brush for a # 12 filbert brush and redirected my focus. The rest is history!
Welcome to my e-gallery. I consider myself a landscape artist presenting works with the palette of a colorist. My oil paintings convey a realistic beauty that is the pure fabric of the composition. By observing my environment I have learned to respect the simplistic visual that is nature's gift. Whether I paint a local landscape, flower, or a piazza in Italy, the scenes offer equal challenge to a landscape artist and comprise my body of work. They are presented here for your enjoyment and insight into my creative process.
